Rosie’s* life changed in an instant back in June 22, when a devastating road traffic collision with a HGV on the motorway left her with a traumatic brain injury and multiple orthopaedic injuries, including significant injuries to her wrist. The impact of her injuries forced Rosie to stop working and put her future into question. But after just over two years, Rosie’s case was settled for over £500,000 in September 2024. This settlement has meant Rosie can look forward with the financial stability to continue her recovery and rebuild her life.

Challenges

Following the collision, Rosie faced numerous physical and emotional challenges.

  • Rosie’s traumatic brain injury and damage to her wrist left her unable to work, which added financial strain on top of the physical and psychological toll.
  • We recognised that Rosie needed specialist input to help her with her recovery and to make sure she achieved her best possible outcome.

How we helped

After 12 months of negotiations, the defendant insurers admitted that their driver was at fault for the collision. We pushed forward with the case, and with careful negotiations and regular meetings with the defendants, we were able to set out a timetable to keep the case on track and avoid any unnecessary delays.

  • Throughout the conduct of the case, we secured over £50k in interim payments (payments that the defendants make while a case is ongoing to pay for ongoing treatment and support), which were crucial for providing Rosie with the immediate support she needed.
  • These funds were used to cover a comprehensive range of rehabilitation services; a Case Manager coordinated her care, private physiotherapy helped Rosie to regain mobility in her wrist, and she also received vital counselling sessions to support her mental health.
  • In addition, she benefitted from input from specialists in neuropsychiatry, neuropsychology and occupational therapy, as well as vestibular input to address balance issues.
  • Practical help such a taxi fund, cleaner and dog walking services allowed Rosie to focus on her recovery without the added burden of everyday tasks.

Result and outcome

With this dedicated support in place, Rosie made significant strides in her recovery.

  • By January 23, Rosie was able to return to work on a part-time basis, a major milestone in regaining her independence.
  • Over the summer of 23, Rosie achieved another personal victory when she gained enough confidence to return to driving.
  • The case was settled in September 24 for over £500,000 – just over 2 years after the collision.

With this settlement, Rosie has not only secured the financial stability she needs for her future, but she has also regained control of her life and can move forwards with confidence.

“I just wanted to say a huge, huge thank you to you and your team for everything you have done for me and [my partner]. We were totally lost when the accident happened. You helped both of us throughout the recovery and beyond. It became a lot easier for us both knowing we had help.

Your company should be very grateful and proud that they have such a professional, caring, honest, polite, understanding colleague as yourself. I'm very grateful, Louise. Thank you.”
